According to Cao, there have been some major developments from large companies that haven’t been involved in the HR space before. Facebook recently launched ‘Learn with Facebook’ which is a resource for online learning and LinkedIn acquired Lynda.com, drastically increasing their number of learning resources.
He also states that globally remote work has continued to gain traction and has even started to become the norm in some places. There was a lot of discussion around the perks and benefits of remote work in 2018, and the management styles that accompany virtual work situations. It’s important to note that a managers with a more traditional management style can experience a significant learning curve when transitioning to work with remote workers. There is also a different process for finding highly skilled, trustworthy and reliable remote workers as compared to traditional staff that many companies struggle with when they begin hiring remotely.
Last year, employee engagement was quickly replaced with employee experience which completely changed the HR atmosphere. The bottom line is, the experience your employees have when working for you matters. Experience has a significant impact on employee loyalty, happiness, relationships and dedication-all of which can impact your business.
As the year changes, we see more and more technological advances to the HR world as well; AI being at the forefront. Chatbots are now being utilized to support staff internally which could significantly increase the productivity in businesses when used correctly.
